Abstract:

Introduction: Hydatid disease is an infection caused by larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus in humans, which are carried as tapeworms by canines. The most frequent organs affected in humans are liver and lungs. We presented a case of pelvic hydatic cyst which is a rare occurrence. Case report: There was a 75 years old man with a history of admission for left lower limb edema suspected to DVT. The patient was suffering from generalized abdominal pains especially in LLQ. On pelvic ultrasound and CT scan, a cystic mass with internal septation on the left side of pelvis was reported. After surgery, pathology report of removed cyst confirmed the hydatid cyst. Conclusion: In endemic regions, in patients complaining of lower limb edema and suspected to have DVT, pelvic mass lesions such as hydatic cyst should be born in mind.

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Atherosclerosis is affected by some related causative factors, diseases or smoking habits. The aim of this study was to reveal atherosclerotic lesions in aorta, lower limb and pelvic arteries as well as to study some stenosing factors of these arteries, such as increase in cholesterol level of blood, smoking habits or diseases like diabetes.Materials and Methods: Two hundred and seven patients referred to the Department of Radiology, Imam Khomeini Hospital for angiography of the abdominal aorta and pelvic or lower limb arteries were enrolled in this study. These patients underwent angiography after being evaluated by their medical records for cardiopulmonary disorders. Arterial puncture was done via common femoral artery by using Branule needle, guide wire, contrast material and other arterial means. For aortic arteriography, the catheter was introduced in this artery and radiographies were taken after the contrast been injected. However, for lower limb arteriography purpose, the catheter was put into the common femoral artery and after injection of the contrast material, radiographies were taken including the whole limb, i.e. from the thigh up to the toes. Results: Out of 207 atherosclerotic patients referred for angiography, 129 cases had other contributing diseases such as diabetes. Of these, 12 patients were treated and others were not treated enough. During this study, patients were also involved by Buerger, and multiple myeloma. Patients with the history of surgical operations on the pelvis or lower limb were assessed as well. Conclusion: As this study reveals that almost all of the patients had high level of blood cholesterol, and 92 of these also had smoking habit, to decrease the number of patients involved by atherosclerosis it is suggested to reduce the causative factors such as high blood cholesterol level and prevent contributing diseases like diabetes and smoking habits.

Abstract:

A ten and half-year-old spayed female Shih Tzu-terrier dog was presented with swollen mass in the right pelvic limb. The mass was first noticed by the owner three months prior to the presentation but it had enlarged significantly during the past seven days before presentation resulting in pain and lameness. Clinical examination revealed the presence of a large fluctuant mass with soft tissue consistency in the caudal region of the right stifle joint with pain elicited during joint flexion. A well circumscribed large fatty tumor situated between the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles was encountered during surgical exploration of the affected area under general anesthesia which was completely removed. Diagnosis of intermuscular lipoma was confirmed based on clinical findings, the gross appearance of the tumor, and the presence of mature adipocytes in histological sections. This report describes clinical signs, physical examination, and diagnostic imaging findings along with surgical treatment of canine intermuscular lipoma, a rare form of lipoma, and benign mesenchymal tumor of adipose tissue situated between muscle bellies which is not locally invasive and does not metastasize. To the best of our knowledge, this type of canine tumor has not been previously reported in Iran.

Abstract:

Osteology is one of the most important parts of anatomical studies, so that we can find useful information about animal's biological properties by examining their skeletons. The aim of this research was to study morphometric characteristics of skeleton of wing and pelvic limb of male and female Eurasian Teal (Anas crecca). Six pieces of wings, os coxae and pelvic limbs of males and females Eurasian Teal were X-rayed and cleaned. First the morphological characteristics of the bones and then the morphometric characteristics such as length, curvature index, weight of wings and pelvic limb and their ratio to total body weight were evaluated. The results were analyzed by SPSS software and independent samples T-Test (P < 0. 05). the anatomical features of skeleton of wing of Eurasian Teal was similar to the other ducks (Anatidae), but in the pelvic girdle, the size of the pre-acetabular and post-acetabular parts of the ileum was approximately equal, in addition there weren't any significant change in width of the pubis after passing the caudal border of ischium. Unlike most members of the duck family that the shortness of femur is compensated by doubling the length of the leg, in Eurasian Teal the leg was only 1. 5 times more elongated than the femur. The length of fibula was 3/5 of the tibiotarsal bone, and the number of longitudinal ridges on the tarsometatarsal bone was 3. Moreover, there was no significant difference in morphometric characteristics of wings and pelvic limbs in male and female birds.

Abstract:

Limb-Girdle Muscular dystrophy (LGMD) is a rare hereditary myopathy which involves pelvic and shoulder muscles. Anesthesia management could be a challenge in these patients considering the choice of technique and potential complications in perioperative period. Since it is a rare disease, clinical trials are scarce and most of the information about anesthetic considerations obtained from case reports. Here we have a short review of the disease and the report the choice of spinal anesthesia in a 28 year old lady suffering LGMD undergoing caesarian section. There was no perioperative complication.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is one of the most important elements in normal musculoskeletal function during gait cycle and serve as a shock absorber during heel strike and load transfer from lower limbs to trunk. Its stabilizing is the product of osseous, ligamentus and muscular elements which muscle activity of these muscles (Gluteus Maximus, Biceps Femoris, Multifidus, Erector Spinea, and Latissimus Dorsi) is important in load transfer through SIJ. It seems that the function of the given muscles in sacroiliac joint pain subjects is interrupted. So, the aim of the present study is to compare muscle activity during different events of stance phase of gait cycle during preferred and slow speed between sacroiliac joint pain and healthy subjects. Methods and Materials: Thirteen SIJ pain subjects (12 females, 1 male) and thirteen healthy subjects (11 females, 2 male) participated in this study. Muscle activity based on RMS from selected muscles was recorded during different events of stance phase of gait either preferred or slow speed by EMG Data-link Biometrics and normalized according to muscle activity during a 500 ms period in rest position before starting walking called Baseline Correction. Results: Significant statistical differences were found between two groups in muscle activity based RMS during different events of stance (p=0.006), but there was no significant difference in effect of speed on RMS between two groups (p=0.37). Significant Statistical differences were also seen between selected muscles in each group separately during slow speed of walking (p=0.003) but no significant statistical difference during preferred speed in SIJ pain group (p=0.14).Conclusion: SIJ subjects have showed increased levels of muscle activity during different events of stance phase of gait with preferred and slow speeds. These increased levels can be interpreted as a mechanism to control trunk movements effectively, provide sufficient support and transfer load to lumbar area efficiently.

Background: The aim of radiation therapy is to deliver a precisely measured dose of irradiation to a defended tumor volume. Simulation has been used instances to document the configuration of the portal and target volume to be irradiated accurately. Unfortunately, there is non-Conventional simulation in most of cancer centers in Iran. There fore in this study, it was tried to estimate pelvic inlet from inrerspinous diameter (distance between two Ant. Sup. Iliac spine) of the aforementioned patients in Radiotherapy – Oncology Department in Imam Hossein hospital. Materials and methods: Interspious diameter on the surface kin (X) and pelvic inlet (Y) on simulation in the 44 men and 61 women were determined, coefficient (r) in men and women rm=0.8841 rw=0.8141 and linear regression analysis the following equation was obtained. Y=0.525X-0.339 R2=0.7815 for men Y=0.326 X+5.18 R2=0.6626 for women Conclusion: It was concluded that in both men and women, it is possible to estimate pelvic Inlet diameter from Interspinous diameter. But the coefficient of determination (Rsq) is lower in women than men.
